Les McKeown
Leslie Richard McKeown

Born:  12th November 1955 - Edinburgh
Simpson Memorial Maternity Pavillion Hospital

Took over from Nobby Clark as lead singer of the Bay City Rollers after Nobby left the band.

Les left BCR in 1979 and was replaced by Duncan Faure.

In 1975, whilst driving his new Ford Mustang, Les knocked over and killed 75 yr old Mrs. Euphemia Clunie in Edinburgh.  He was charged £150/£300 (reports differ as to the amount) and charged with death by reckless driving, he was also banned from driving for one year.  This hit Les hard, especially when

he was expected to carry on working and performing with no help to deal with this traumatic event.

After leaving, Les released a series of solo albums to moderate success.  They were popular in places such as Germany and Japan.

In 1990 Les went through the UK heats of The Eurovision Song Contest to be placed 5th.

On August 23rd 2005 Les was ordered by Harlow Magistrates to appear at Chelmsford Crown Court on drugs charges.  On January 31st 2006, he admitted to being a drug user but denied dealing.  On 3rd February 2006 he was acquitted of dealing cocaine.

He suggested that he may sue the Metropolitan Police for loss of earnings due to a tour which had to be cancelled due to the proceedings.

Les released an autobiography entitled, Shang-A-Lang, Life as an international Pop Idol.

Today Les lives in England with his Japanese wife Peko and son Richard.

Les still tours with his band, Les McKeown's Legendary Bay City Rollers.

Les is facing his demons and fighting his addiction in a new reality tv show called Celebrity Rehab.  Keep an eye out for it and let's support our boy changing his life.  Good on ya Les!
